Polygon FAQ
- What is Polygon?
- Polygon (MATIC) is an Ethereum scaling ecosystem launched in 2017, initially as a proof-of-stake sidechain and now expanding into zk-rollups (Polygon zkEVM, Polygon CDK) and the AggLayer — a shared liquidity layer for rollups.
- What's the MATIC → POL migration?
- Polygon's native token is transitioning from MATIC to POL as part of Polygon 2.0. Holders swap 1:1, and POL gains utility across multiple Polygon chains (PoS, zkEVM, future AggLayer chains). Exchange-listed swaps have largely completed.
- What is AggLayer?
- AggLayer is Polygon's cross-chain coordination layer — connected zk-rollups can move assets and messages between each other with near-instant, unified finality, instead of going back through Ethereum. Production rollout is ongoing through 2026.
- Can I stake MATIC/POL?
- Yes. Validators stake to secure the PoS chain; delegators can bond with any amount through validators of their choice. APY varies with validator commission and network issuance; slashing applies for uptime and equivocation.
