Corrections

When the newsroom gets it wrong, the fix happens in the open.

Updated

How corrections are handled

  1. Triage. A reader report or an internal spot-check opens a correction ticket within 24 hours.
  2. Investigate. The published piece is compared against the primary source. If the source itself changed, that is noted.
  3. Correct in place. The article is updated with the corrected text. A dated Correction note at the top of the article describes what changed. The original wording is preserved in the revision log for audit.
  4. Log here. Material corrections are added to the list below. Typographical fixes, caption tweaks, and formatting-only changes are not logged.
  5. Review related work. If the root cause points to a workflow or editorial checklist gap, the affected batch is reviewed again.

How to report an error

Email corrections@thechainpost.com. Include the article URL, the passage you believe is wrong, and, if possible, a link to the primary source that contradicts it. The desk replies within three business days.

What counts as a correction versus an update

  • Correction. A factual error at time of publication, such as a wrong name, number, date, or misattributed quote.
  • Update. The story itself has evolved — the same piece now carries additional context, a response, or fresh data. Updates are marked Updated [date] without a correction note unless the original reporting was also wrong.
