Bitcoin fell to nearly $58,000 on Tuesday as Strategy's STRC preferred shares marked a new low, according to Decrypt. The slump pulled Strategy's common stock (MSTR) down with it.
Strategy holds one of the largest corporate Bitcoin treasuries. STRC shares, which represent claims on that reserve, trade as a proxy for the underlying Bitcoin holdings plus the company's debt and operational value. When STRC falls sharply, it often reflects either a drop in Bitcoin's price itself or a widening discount between the share price and the net asset value of the treasury.
The two moves—Bitcoin's descent and STRC's fresh low—feed each other. A sharp Bitcoin decline puts pressure on any equity tied to that asset. Conversely, weakness in STRC can signal trader concern about Strategy's balance sheet or leverage, which may ripple back into broader risk appetite.
At publication, Bitcoin was trading around $61,646 according to market data, having clawed back partway from its intraday low. STRC's drop past $100 marks the latest phase of a downtrend that has tested investor conviction in the strategy of holding Bitcoin as corporate treasury reserve.
