Michael Anderson, cofounder of Framework Ventures, argues that blockchain's next chapter isn't about crypto-native trading or speculation. Instead, it's becoming the financial infrastructure for capital-intensive industries that need to move large sums across borders and cut settlement delays.

Anderson's thesis hinges on a straightforward efficiency play: industries like AI development and robotics require massive, repeated capital transfers. Traditional finance charges intermediaries at each step, adds processing delays measured in days, and creates friction when money moves internationally. Blockchain settles faster and removes some of those middlemen taking a cut.

"Blockchain is becoming the financial layer for capital-intensive industries," Anderson told CoinDesk. The bet is that firms building AI models or manufacturing robots will choose blockchain rails when speed and cost matter more than brand-name banking relationships.

The opportunity exists, but adoption depends on execution. Most AI and robotics companies today still route funding through venture capital and traditional banking, partly because those channels are already wired into their legal and accounting infrastructure. A startup doesn't switch payment rails because they're marginally cheaper if the regulatory complexity and operational change aren't worth the savings.

Framework's angle is that as capital requirements in AI and robotics grow, the margin for blockchain efficiency widens. A company moving millions monthly across jurisdictions might find the cumulative savings and speed gains substantial enough to justify switching. Anderson sees those industries as the wedge into broader blockchain adoption, rather than betting on retail crypto demand or speculative trading volumes.
