MoonPay, a cryptocurrency payments network, launched MoonPay Headless Onramps on Tuesday, a checkout tool that lets developers embed crypto purchasing directly into their applications without building from scratch.
The product handles one-tap purchases via Apple Pay, Google Pay, and card payments. By "headless," MoonPay means developers can integrate the checkout flow into existing storefronts or apps without using MoonPay's full UI layer, according to the company's press release.
The move targets merchants and platforms that want to offer crypto buying without the friction of redirecting users to a third-party payment page. For merchants already collecting payment data and processing transactions, embedding a crypto on-ramp reduces abandonment and keeps users in-app.
MoonPay has processed billions in transaction volume since its 2018 launch and counts Shopify, Coinbase, and Robinhood as integration partners. The company raised $555 million in Series C funding in 2022, valuing it at $3.4 billion, and has since absorbed competitor Wyre into its platform.
No pricing, launch date, or rollout timeline was disclosed in the announcement. The headless approach mirrors patterns in traditional fintech, where embedded payment APIs like Stripe Connect and Square have driven adoption by removing friction between purchase intent and completion.
