EDX Markets, an institutional cryptocurrency platform, has closed a $76 million Series C funding round with Japan's SBI Holdings as its only investor.

The Block reported the funding on Tuesday. EDX Markets operates a spot and derivatives venue designed for institutional clients, with custodians and liquidity providers on its platform. The company launched in late 2021 and has built compliance infrastructure to operate in regulated markets.

SBI Holdings, a major Japanese financial services conglomerate, is backing the platform solo in this round. The investment signals confidence in EDX's institutional model, though neither party disclosed how the capital will be deployed or provided detail on the platform's current user base, trading volume, or valuation.

The funding underscores a broader shift toward institutional infrastructure in crypto, even as regulatory frameworks remain in flux across major jurisdictions. Japan has been moving to clarify its crypto licensing rules in recent years, which may create tailwinds for platforms like EDX that prioritize compliance and custody solutions for sophisticated traders.
