When top-10 assets stall, the hunt moves down the curve. Traders chasing velocity swap into tokens with thinner liquidity and larger percentage moves. That's not new. What matters is whether the underlying infrastructure actually supports the bet.
The real friction points
XRP's story rests on Ripple's regulatory standing and real payment adoption. The SEC lawsuit shaped price action for years. Payment rails don't flip on a quarterly earnings call—they require custodian sign-off and rails integration. Watch whether major payment processors actually route through Ripple's settlement layer, not just the company's press releases.
Solana's pitch is raw throughput. The chain processed 50,000+ transactions per second during bull runs, but the network has had outages tied to validator load. Client diversity matters here: more independent validator operators running different software implementations makes the chain harder to accidentally brick. Track whether the validator set is actually diversifying or if Solana's ecosystem still clusters around a few major node operators.
Neither of these conditions flipped last week. XRP's regulatory cloud remains unsettled. Solana's validator health doesn't move in headline cycles.
Why this matters for smaller bets
