Avalanche vs USD Coin FAQ
- What is Avalanche?
- Avalanche (AVAX) is a proof-of-stake platform launched in 2020. Its distinguishing feature is the Subnet architecture — the Primary Network hosts smart contracts while custom application-specific Subnets run in parallel with their own validators and rules.
- What are Avalanche Subnets?
- Subnets are sovereign chains that inherit security from a set of validators they choose. DeFi Kingdoms, Dexalot, and many institutional chains (including JPMorgan's Onyx integration) use Subnets for compliance-friendly deployments.
- What is USDC?
- USDC (USD Coin) is a dollar-pegged stablecoin issued by Circle. Each USDC is backed 1:1 by USD-denominated reserves (cash and short-duration US Treasuries), attested monthly by a major accounting firm and held at regulated US banks.
- Is USDC safe?
- USDC has maintained its peg since launch in 2018, with the notable exception of a brief de-peg in March 2023 during the Silicon Valley Bank collapse, where Circle had exposure. Reserves are now diversified across multiple banks and short-dated Treasuries.
