Shiba Inu vs Tether FAQ
- What is Shiba Inu?
- Shiba Inu (SHIB) is an ERC-20 memecoin launched in August 2020 by an anonymous founder known as Ryoshi. It's often described as a 'Dogecoin killer' and built a devoted community around a token ecosystem (BONE, LEASH) plus Shibarium, its Ethereum L2.
- What is Shibarium?
- Shibarium is the SHIB ecosystem Layer 2, launched in August 2023. It uses Polygon-style proof-of-stake, targets low fees for SHIB-native dApps, and burns BONE/SHIB on each transaction as a deflationary mechanism.
- What is Tether?
- USDT (Tether) is the largest dollar-pegged stablecoin by market capitalisation, issued by Tether Limited (Hong Kong). It is widely used for on-chain trading and remittance, especially in emerging markets where USD access is restricted.
- Is USDT fully backed?
- Tether publishes quarterly attestation reports (not full audits) from an accounting firm. As of the most recent report, reserves are predominantly US Treasuries, with smaller allocations to secured loans, precious metals, and Bitcoin. Tether has settled regulatory cases in the US over past disclosures.
