BlackRock has added support for Ethena's USDe stablecoin across its Aladdin platform, according to reporting by The Block. The integration allows investment professionals using the platform to access and manage positions in USDe alongside traditional holdings.
Aladdin is BlackRock's operating system for institutional asset management, used by portfolio managers and risk teams at large firms to model positions, monitor valuations, and execute trades across asset classes. Adding USDe to its toolkit signals growing institutional interest in on-chain stablecoins as a cash-equivalent tool.
USDe is Ethena's delta-neutral stablecoin, launched in 2024. It maintains its peg through a combination of collateral and short perpetual futures positions on major exchanges. The stablecoin has grown rapidly in total value locked, driven partly by early yield incentives that Ethena distributed to early adopters and liquidity providers.
The timing reflects a broader institutional appetite for stablecoin infrastructure. Spot Bitcoin and Ethereum ETFs have opened doors for traditional asset managers to enter crypto markets with regulated products. A stablecoin accessible within institutional trading and portfolio management systems removes one more friction point for large firms testing digital asset workflows.
For Ethena, wider distribution through Aladdin's user base expands the number of potential holders beyond crypto-native platforms and exchanges. For BlackRock users, the integration simply adds another option for managing digital dollar exposure within their existing system rather than toggling between separate apps or custodians.
USDe remains a relatively young and concentrated asset. The stablecoin depends on the stability of its underlying collateral and the continued functioning of its futures strategy. Institutional adoption can deepen liquidity and normalize the asset, but it also concentrates exposure among a smaller number of large holders.
BlackRock did not return requests for additional detail on the integration's timeline, technical architecture, or intended use cases. The platform integration itself does not represent a BlackRock fund launch, direct endorsement, or institutional product offering, only a tooling capability for existing clients.
