FalconX Limited has received authorization under the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA) from the Malta Financial Services Authority, the firm announced. The authorization grants FalconX regulated access to offer institutional trading, custody, and prime brokerage services across the EU and European Economic Area.

MiCA took effect in December 2023 and established a single rulebook for crypto asset service providers operating in EU member states. Rather than navigate a patchwork of national regimes, firms can now apply for authorization in a home jurisdiction and passport that approval across the bloc. FalconX's authorization from Malta allows it to serve institutional clients—asset managers, hedge funds, prime brokers—under one EU-wide license.

The Malta Financial Services Authority has granted other crypto firms authorization under MiCA since the regulation's launch, though the pace of approvals remains measured. The regulator typically requires crypto firms to meet capital requirements, client asset safeguarding standards, and operational resilience rules.

FalconX's authorization covers activities as a crypto asset service provider, likely including the reception and transmission of orders, execution, custody, and operation of trading platforms. The exact scope and any conditions attached to the authorization were not detailed in the announcement.

For institutions already operating in the EU, the approval simplifies compliance. Rather than holding separate licenses in multiple jurisdictions or relying on exemptions for cross-border services, they can now access FalconX's platform through a single regulated gateway. That reduces legal and operational overhead.
